Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and other GOP senators demand that President Joe Biden drop the wokeness by abandoning a proposed rule that would cause the federal government to “Don’t Say Dad.”

The lawmakers demanded that Biden stop seeking to “advance radical gender ideology” by rejecting a proposed Department of Health and Human Services rule that would strip “gender-specific” terms such as “mother” and “father” from federal regulations covering the agency’s Child Support Enforcement program.

According to the HHS plan, the government would replace the word “paternity” with the “gender-neutral term ‘parentage’” in order “to be inclusive of all family structures.”

The draft order notes that the shift in language would align federal regs with some state laws “to include establishment of parentage for children of same-sex parents when establishment of paternity does not apply.”

HHS also argued that the proposed regulation aligns with several of Biden’s executive orders with the following titles:

  • Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government
  • Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation
  • Advancing Equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Individuals
  • Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government

“These Executive orders address how the Federal Government should pursue a comprehensive approach to advancing equity for all, including members of the LGBTQI+ communities,” HHS said in its proposal. “This proposed rule recognizes the existence of and legal needs of diverse family structures.”

Rubio and the other senators explained that the woke push for “diversity, equity, and inclusion” is precisely the problem.

“Your administration’s ‘Don’t Say Dad’ agenda is not only confusing, it does nothing to help single parents who are struggling to provide for their children,” the lawmakers told Biden in their letter.

“We urge you to rescind the proposed rule, acknowledge the essential role that mothers and fathers play in families, and focus your efforts on more important matters.”

“We are disappointed that your administration is using CSE as a tool to advance radical gender ideology, rather than strengthening its ability to help families,” the senators continued.

“Americans understand that mothers and fathers are different, and that both parents play vital roles in raising their children. Federal regulations should uphold this fact rather than erasing the reality of biological sex in the law at the behest of left-wing activists.”

Joining Rubio in signing the letter were Sens. James Lankford of Oklahoma, Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, Mike Braun of Indiana, Ted Cruz of Texas and Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi.
