HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – In recognition of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Hillsborough County Anti Drug Alliance (HCADA), and Tampa Police Department, among other organizations, will host a prescription drug take-back event this Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The annual drug take back event aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means for residents to dispose of prescription drugs while also educating the general public about the potential for opioid abuse if medications fall into the wrong hands.
On Saturday, residents can dispose of their unwanted drugs at the following four locations throughout Hillsborough County:
Walmart
7011 West Waters Ave
Tampa, FL 33634
Brandon Regional Hospital
Brandon Medical Plaza
(Across the street from the hospital)
425 S Parsons Ave
Brandon, FL 33511
CVS
3102 W Gandy Blvd
Tampa, FL 33611
Walmart
1505 N Dale Mabry Highway
Tampa, FL 33607
During the 2019 Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a total of 1,015 pounds of unwanted medication was collected in Hillsborough County.
“We want to do whatever we can to help fight the opioid crisis in our communities, and that means starting with making sure our prescription drugs aren’t accessible to those who could abuse them,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “It’s very common for residents to have old medication just sitting around the house. This is a chance to dispose of your drugs in a safe way.”
