The stunning news on Sunday — stunning for liberals, at least — was that President Joe Biden trails former President Donald Trump by 10 points in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup next year.
But that survey by The Washington Post and ABC News overshadowed more bad news for Biden, as was found in a different poll released the same day.
Biden is floundering badly among a hardcore traditional Democratic constituency: black voters.

Despite all his “anti-racism” rhetoric, his proclaiming “white supremacy” as America’s biggest threat, his attempts to portray “extreme MAGA Republicans” as racists, his first-ever appointments of several black leaders to prominent federal posts, and his relentless promotion of “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” Biden’s support among black Americans has plummeted since he took office.
The NBC poll showed that Biden’s support among blacks has dropped from 80% in 2021 to 63% now.
That is a 21% drop overall.
The NBC survey found that blacks still back Biden 76% to 14% over Trump.
But, as The Washington Post noted last week, Trump is benefitting from Biden’s failure to produce for black Americans, and his insults of them.
The Post pointed out that Trump’s support among blacks “could set modern-day records for a Republican in a presidential election.”
Just in the last few days, Biden gave a speech in which he insulted academic achievement among blacks and others, saying, “We’ve seen record lows in unemployment, particularly, and I’ve focused on this my whole career, particularly for African-Americans and Hispanic workers and veterans — you know, the workers without high school diplomas!”

At an appearance with the Congressional Black Caucus over the weekend, Biden referred to rapper and TV star LL Cool J as “boy.”
Biden faces disaster in other aspects of NBC’s poll, which did not get as much attention as the Post’s.
NBC had Biden and Trump tied at 46% in a hypothetical matchup despite Trump’s 91 indictments in four criminal cases in state and federal courts. Three months ago, the same poll had Biden leading Trump 49-45.
NBC also noted that 59% of Democrats want someone other than Biden to be their nominee next year and that Biden’s disapproval rating is 56%, the highest of his presidency.
