Some conservatives on social media are calling for a popular safe company to get the full Bud Light treatment after the firm willingly cooperated with federal authorities in accessing his firearms.

Making A Bad Situation Worse: Liberty Safe’s Leaders Helped Elect Anti-Gun Democrats

Conservatives demanding a Bud Light-style boycott of the gun-safe maker Liberty Safe Co. may have more ammo to use now that it appears its leadership supports anti-Second Amendment Democrats.

As the Tampa Free Press reported earlier this week, Liberty Safe came under fire by conservatives after it was revealed the company provided the FBI the combination to one of its safes without a warrant.

The gun safe belonged to Nathan Earl Hughes, a Trump supporter from Arkansas sought on charges of brawling with cops during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. FBI agents claimed they had a warrant to search Hughes’ property.

But Liberty Safe did not help its cause with those on the right when it admitted it could have resisted the FBI’s demand.

As conservative journalist Collin Rugg reported on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, “At the end of their three page statement, Liberty Safe slyly admitted that they legally did not have to give the FBI access to Hughes’ safe but did so anyway.”

He quoted the company’s statement: “We have also revised our policies around cooperation with law enforcement.” Liberty added, “Going forward we will require a subpoena that legally compels Liberty Safe to supply access codes but can only do so if these codes still exist in our system.”

Compounding this comment was a report, posted Friday on the pro-Second Amendment website Bearing Arms, that Liberty executives gave generously to anti-gun Democrats, including former President Barack Obama.

As uncovered by conservative activist Charlie Kirk, federal election reports show that Monomoy Capital Partners, a liberal East Coast investment firm that bought Liberty Safe in 2021, gave roughly $400,000 to left-wing Democrats over the past 10 election cycles.

That included contributions to Democrats such as Sens. Raphael Warnock of Georgia, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Mark Kelly of Arizona, and Senate candidate Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin.

Further, current Liberty Safe CEO Justin Hillenbrand, a founding partner of Monomoy, donated $4,600 to Obama for America, according to Kirk.

On X, Kirk added, “And we’re supposed to be surprised they betrayed their customers to the FBI as quickly as humanly possible? Boycott Liberty Safe.”

Bearing Arms columnist Tom Knighton noted, “Now, did this have anything at all to do with Liberty Safe’s decision to provide the access code to police for someone accused of participating in the January 6th situation at the Capitol? Who knows? They’re not going to admit it, that’s for sure.”

“What we do know, though, is that if you bought a Liberty Safe, you may have helped contribute to people who will fund anti-gun voices and work to take away your Second Amendment rights.”
