Some conservatives on social media are calling for a popular safe company to get the full Bud Light treatment after the firm willingly cooperated with federal authorities in accessing his firearms.
According to Arkansas Online, authorities arrested Nathan Earl Hughes last week for brawling with cops during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The charges include one felony count of interfering with police during a civil disorder and three misdemeanors that include entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, and impeding passage through the Capitol grounds or buildings. He was freed on $5,000 bail.
But conservatives were outraged because the Liberty Safe Co. provided the FBI the combination to Hughes’ personal gun safe without a warrant or even questioning the agency’s request.
The story took off because Hughes is a friend of twin brothers Keith and Kevin Hodge, prominent supporters of former President Donald Trump who are known on X (formerly Twitter) as the HodgeTwins.

According to an X post on Monday by the Hodges, the FBI raided his home and held Hughes and his girlfriend, who recently had a miscarriage, at gunpoint and handcuffed them.
“The feds called the manufacturer of his Liberty Gun Safe and got the passcode to get into it too,” they added. “All for protesting at the Capitol over 2 1/2 years ago. He is being charged with crimes related to January 6th. He didn’t assault anyone and he didn’t vandalize anything. He is being labeled a domestic terrorist and a traitor to his country by woke leftists and the media.”
“Nate is just like us, he’s an outspoken American Patriot, he loves freedom, loves his country, and would do anything to preserve our rights,” they added. “It’s time for people to speak up for people getting screwed by the system. BLM and Antifa can go burn down our cities and get off the hook, but Trump supporters get raided and rounded up for protesting.”
Liberty tried to defend its actions in a statement, according to The Blaze.
The company admitted the FBI requested the access code to the safe and was provided it. “Our company protocol is to provide access codes to law enforcement if a warrant grants them access to a property,” the company said. “After receiving the request, we received proof of the valid warrant, and only then did we provide them with an access code. Liberty Safe had no knowledge of any of the details surrounding the investigation at the time.”
“Liberty Safe is committed to preserving our customers’ rights, and we will remain unwavering in those values,” the company added.

Many on the right were not convinced.
The Hodges replied on X: “And you call yourself ‘Liberty’?? Bout to get the Bud Light treatment.”
Tyler Bowyer, chief operating officer of the conservative group Turning Point Action, added, “New slogan: ‘The Bud Light of Safes!’”
Sean Davis, CEO of the conservative website The Federalist, posted, “Absent a court order, you weren’t required to give them anything. You voluntarily gave out a combination over a warrant, per your own release, that didn’t apply to you or your property. Maybe start marketing your stuff as Bud Light storage.”
Collin Rugg, co-owner of the website Trending Politics, noted the company locked its account after the controversy blew up. He cited a customer who said he was canceling the $7,000 gun safe he had ordered because Liberty cooperated with the feds.
“If you thought Bud Light was bad, this will be 10x worse. You love to see it,” Rugg posted. “We have officially found the Bud Light of gun safes. Enjoy going out of business, @libertysafeinc.”
The popular conservative X account Catturd noted: “Liberty Safe = Bud light.”
Conservative podcaster Benny Johnson said Liberty Safe was “very deserving” of the same treatment the right slapped Bud Light and Target with for their support of the LGBTQ agenda. “Liberty Safe deserves the Bud Light treatment, and the boycott treatment,” Johnson added.
