TAMPA, Fla. – Brandon Hagel is coming off a season in which he established career bests for goals (30), assists (34), points (64) and plus/minus (plus-23) while placing second in the NHL in takeaways (92).
Tuesday morning, the Lightning announced they rewarded the 24-year-old forward with an eight-year, $52-million extension.
The pact, which kicks in beginning with the 2024-25 season, carries an annual average value of $6.5 million. Hagel is entering the final season of a three-year, $4.5-million deal he signed with Chicago in 2021.

Hagel, who was acquired from the Blackhawks at the 2022 trade deadline, has 34 goals and 71 points in 103 games as a member of the Lightning. He has three goals and 11 points in 29 playoff games with Tampa Bay, including a goal and five points in last season’s six-game opening-round loss to Toronto.
One of Hagel’s highlights last season was his first hat trick in a Bolts uniform. It came March 18 against visiting Montreal and in his 200th career game. It was his second career hat trick with the first coming in his 100th career game while with Chicago.
Hagel had 17 multi-point games last season, including six with three points.
