A 21-year-old Florida motorcyclist was arrested Sunday after striking a Deputy and reaching speeds of 150 mph in the Upper Keys.
Christopher Johann Petersen of Cutler Bay, Florida, was charged with fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, hit and run, operating a motorcycle without a motorcycle endorsement, and criminal mischief.
The Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop two speeding motorcycles northbound on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 82 at approximately 11:15 a.m. One stopped, and the other, driven by Petersen, took off. Several Deputies subsequently observed Petersen but did not attempt to pursue him for safety reasons.
