BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – At 4:25 p.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a residential fire at 12000 block of Fairway Ave. HCFES arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and fire from the rear of the manufactured home. Crews initiated a simultaneous fire attack and assisted the homeowner out of the residence.
The fire was completely under control at 4:48 p.m. The single occupant refused treatment or transport. The fire was contained to the shed with no extension to the interior of the mobile home or adjacent structures.
The origin of the fire appears to be the rear of the structure in an attached shed, but the cause is currently under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office.
HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 3 ALS medic units, Fire Corps, and 2 Battalion Chiefs for a total of 18 personnel.
HCFES would like to remind the community that storage sheds pose a risk when attached to a house. Be very cautious when storing items in the shed that may pose a fire risk.
