A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper put himself in harm’s way Monday, stopping an Arizona woman who was driving the wrong way in Orlando.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, on Monday around 10:23 pm, calls came in about a wrong-way driver heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-4.

Multiple agencies responded to stop the driver who was exiting the freeway onto S. John Young Parkway.

According to investigators, a 22-year-old trooper, with lights and sirens activated, approached the south shoulder of the exit ramp and positioned his cruiser in front of the Arizona’s woman car, blocking her from entering the busy intersection.

The woman’s car collided with the trooper and then traveled onto the north side of the ramp and into the grass. Ultimately colliding with a palm tree.

The driver, a 48-year-old Tucson, Arizona woman, was transported for a medical evaluation. The trooper suffered minor injuries in the crash and most likely saved lives.
