HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla – Florida Forest Service – Withlacoochee Forestry Center will be conducting a 50-acre prescribed fire today in the Withlacoochee State Forest, Brooksville, in Hernando County.
The fire is along Broad Street (Hwy 41) and Pawnee Drive for hazardous fuel reduction.
A “Prescribed Burn” is the controlled application of fire by a team of fire experts, under specified weather conditions. The purpose is to restore health to ecosystems that depend on fire.
