PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla.- One man is dead, and another is in serious condition after a high-speed crash into a block wall, splitting the car in half.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, around 9:49 pm on Tuesday, a car was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on Starkey Road, approaching Bardmoore Place, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle departed the roadway, entered the shoulder, struck a guide wire for a utility pole, and finally collided with a block wall and separated into two pieces.

The rear half of the vehicle continued northwest, colliding with a tree and two wood fences before coming to final rest in the backyard of a nearby residence located at 10422 Longwood Drive.
Both the driver and passenger were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, troopers say.
The passenger, a 30-year-old man from Apalachicola, Florida, later died from injuries suffered during the crash.
The driver, a 26-year-old Largo man, is in serious condition.
