Meta Platform has apparently relented in its attempt to shield President Joe Biden from competition within his own party.
As The Free Press reported on Sunday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy and a Democratic challenger to Biden, had said on Saturday that he would join Elon Musk for an interview on Twitter Spaces.
Musk invited Kennedy on the platform, which was where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his presidential bid after Kennedy complained about being banned by Instagram.
“Interesting… when we use our TeamKennedy email address to set up @instagram accounts we get an automatic 180-day ban. Can anyone guess why that’s happening?” Kennedy had tweeted on Thursday.

Kennedy added, “To silence a major political candidate is profoundly undemocratic. Social media is the modern equivalent of the town square. How can democracy function if only some candidates have access to it?”
Apparently recognizing a PR disaster unfolding in front of them, Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, opened up to Kennedy.
On Sunday, Newsmax reported that Instagram had reinstated Kennedy’s account, which had been banned in 2021 because of his criticism of COVID-19 vaccines and general opposition to immunizations.
“As he is now an active candidate for president of the United States, we have restored access to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s Instagram account,” company spokesman Andy Stone explained in a statement.
Kennedy was expected to appear with Musk on Tuesday.
