66-Year-Old Woman Killed In Sarasota Crash

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened just after 2:45 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, in the City of Sarasota.

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened just after 2:45 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, in the City of Sarasota.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash near Rose Street and South Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41).

The driver of an SUV, a 66-year-old woman, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 and crashed into a box truck at the intersection of Rose Street and U.S. 41.

The driver of the SUV died at the scene, police say.

The driver of the box truck, a 48-year-old man, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a precaution. He remains hospitalized.

U.S. 41 from the intersection of Bougainvillea Street to Goldenrod Street was closed for several hours for the investigation.

It’s unknown if drugs, alcohol, or speed played a factor in the crash. The crash is under investigation by the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit.
