TAMPA, Fla – Tampa Fire Rescue crews responded to a reported structure fire at the Grand Hyatt Hotel at 2900 Bayport Dr. at approximately 6:25 am on Friday.
According to officials, first-arriving crews found smoke on the 11th floor of the commercial hotel.
A third alarm was declared, bringing additional firefighters to the scene due to the high occupancy of the structure.

Firefighters quickly evacuated hotel occupants and rendered medical aid to guests in need. Crews contained the fire to the 11th floor and extinguished the fire within 30 minutes.
“There were nine civilians transported to local hospitals with minor medical concerns. No injuries to firefighters during operations,” said Vivian Shedd, Public Information Officer.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Tampa Fire Marshal Office investigators.
