A Florida woman was arrested over the weekend for assaulting Rep. Matt Gaetz and pelting him with a glass of wine.
As The Free Press reported on Tuesday, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that it responded to a call in Miramar Beach on Saturday night.
“A 41-year-old Tallahassee woman, Selena Chambers, was arrested after it was found she intentionally threw a glass of wine at Representative Gaetz after shouting obscenities at him,” the Sheriff’s Office tweeted. “She was charged with battery on an elected official and issued a $1,000 bond. She was released the following day.”
Gaetz, a Fort Walton Beach Republican, said he was at a private event with his wife, Ginger.

It’s unclear what led Chambers to attack Gaetz.
Gaetz said on his “Firebrand” podcast on Monday that he was at a food and wine festival and was chatting with a man at the event when suddenly Chambers threw her drink on both of them. “She was promptly arrested,” said Gaetz.
“Folks can shout and scream all they want. This is America,” Gaetz continued. “But if we start allowing stuff to be thrown or hurled, if we allow people to be harmed, there is a severe risk of escalation and accident.”
Gaetz added that by tossing the drink, Chambers “crossed the Rubicon,” and that “is something we want to contain and extinguish and not see going forward.”
Gaetz described Chambers as a “left-wing author” and Joe Biden donor who, in her writings, after Donald Trump became president, had said, “resistance can take a “physical form.”
“We’ll make sure there are appropriate consequences through the legal system,” Gaetz concluded.
According to Gaetz’s office, Chambers was charged with one count of battery on an elected official and one count of battery, to touch or strike.

On Twitter, he added, “I will never allow the safety of Northwest Floridians to be compromised. I will be pressing charges against this individual in order to uphold the civility our community deserves. Thank you to the Walton County Sheriff’s office for taking swift action.”
The incident occurred just one day after The Free Press reported that Allan Poller, a 23-year-old New Hampshire man, was indicted for threatening to kill Gaetz.
Poller actually left his name in a voicemail to Gaetz’s office, in which he told Gaetz, “I just want to let you know, Rep. Matt Gaetz, that if you keep on coming for the gays, we’re gonna strike back — and I guarantee you that you do not want to f–k with us.”
“We will kill you if that’s what it takes,” Poller added. “I will take a bullet to your f–king head if you f–k with my rights anymore.”
Poller told police he was drunk when he made the threat.
