Recently on his podcast, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro asked if Democrats actually hear themselves when they talk.
Their support for the Biden administration’s pitch to spend $20 million of the taxpayers’ money on “female” crash-test dummies suggests they don’t.
The issue is not a new one.
Back in the fall a group of Swedish researchers were in the news for developing the first crash-test dummy that approximated the average-sized woman. Last month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration argued that the human replicas needed to be updated for the 21st century, including incorporating female figures.

But it took off last week when Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut praised Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for prompting the Biden administration’s favorite thing: equity.
“This will start to fight the gender inequity among vehicle safety and crash victims,” DeLauro said.
Critics noted just one point, besides the pricetag: Democrats can’t define what a woman is.
On Twitter, some called out Buttigieg and the congressional Democrats on this point in comments following a video of DeLauro’s remark.
“If you can’t define woman, how can you make a female crash test dummy?” one Twitter user asked.
“Mayor Pete wants to spend 20 million bucks on developing a female crash test dummy. But, I thought that they couldn’t define what a woman was?” said another.
“If Democrats truly believed sex isn’t a biological difference they would just take a ‘male’ crash test dummy, call it ‘female’ and be done with,” another added.
“Yes, we’re just getting started,” one more tweeted. “There are still 55 genders without crash test dummy representation.”

“Congresswoman, your party can’t even identify what a woman is. You’re saying the current crash test dummy can’t be both?” said another.
On the conservative sports website Outkick.com, columnist Bobby Burack, who had circulated DeLauro’s comment, wrote, “First, are we sure the default dummies were males? What is a woman, anyway? Second, what about trans dummies? Will there be specific dummies for male drivers who call themselves women while in the car? Third, this leaves no option for our non-binary friends. … Fourth, when did Democrats start caring about women again?”
“All questions,” he added, “that remain void of answers at the time of publication.”
And one can bet they always will.
