Haines City Man Killed On SR-17 While Riding Bicycle

A 42-year-old Haines City man has died in a crash that happened around 10:30 am on Saturday.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 42-year-old Haines City man has died in a crash that happened around 10:30 pm on Saturday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a car was traveling southbound on SR-17, south of Bannon Island Road.

Troopers say the man on a bicycle was also riding southbound on SR-17 and began crossing the highway while being overtaken by the car.

Despite an attempt to avoid a collision, the car collided with the bicyclist, who suffered fatal injuries at the crash scene.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old Haines City man, sustained no injuries in the collision.
