At the House Judiciary Committee hearing in New York City on Monday, Rep. Matt Gaetz denounced the “Soros-ization” of America’s criminal justice system, saying the left-wing creep in the fight against crime menaces people all across the political spectrum.
During his comments at the hearing, the Fort Walton Beach Republican said GOP lawmakers brought the hearing to the Big Apple not to “use anyone” but to “uplift the voices” of those, including Democrats, who are fed up with the soft-on-crime approach of Mayor Eric Adams and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
In response to a question from Gaetz, Jennifer Harrison, founder of a group called Victims Rights NY, said residents of New York need federal oversight of the crime issue because Democrats in Washington and locally have ignored their pleas for relief.

“I am not here to criticize any New Yorkers,” Gaetz replied, “because so many New Yorkers will soon become Florida voters.”
Gaetz added that New York is America’s “most iconic” city. That’s because of the “sense of hustle” New Yorkers demonstrate in pursuing their dreams.
But that hustle is being overcome by fear,” he argued.
And New York City Councilman Robert Holden, a Democrat, agreed with Gaetz. “It’s increasingly worrisome what we’re going through in New York City. Fear is an everyday event in New York City,” Holden told the committee.

Gaetz then said that rising crime rates in New York and in other major U.S. cities “is exactly what you get with the Soros-ization of the United States justice system.”
“George Soros is putting in upward of $40 million to elect 75 [district attorneys] to engage in these downgrades” of criminal offenses,” said Gaetz.
In Manhattan, for instance, Bragg, one of the DAs elected with Soros money, has reduced 52% of felony arrests to misdemeanors, allowing violent people back on the streets almost immediately.
