The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee continues to come after left-wing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg following his indictment of former President Donald Trump.
The committee plans to travel to New York City on April 17 to hold a hearing on violent crime in Bragg’s jurisdiction. The intent is to analyze how Bragg’s “pro-crime, anti-victim” policies have made the Big Apple a paradise for criminals.
The witnesses at the hearing will be some of those crime victims.

Newsmax noted that Bragg’s office labeled the hearing a “political stunt” and said the GOP lawmakers were coming to the “safest big city in America” — which has experienced a 22% increase in violent crime since Bragg took office.
In an interview, Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Judiciary Committee member, and a Fort Walton Beach Republican, told Newsmax, “It seems that New Yorkers are clinging to their yoga mats in fear, as a consequence of the streets being turned over to the criminal element.”
“This didn’t happen by accident,” he added.
Rather, it stems directly from Bragg’s policies, such as reducing felonies to misdemeanors and releasing suspects on cashless bail, Gaetz argued.
“This didn’t happen by accident. It is a direct consequence of policy choices that we hope are not made in other parts of the country,” said Gaetz.

The congressman also noted that multiple House committees want Bragg to answer for his policies, whether those involve the use of federal funding to further his soft-on-crime policies, or to advance the “bizarre and embarrassing” legal theory Bragg invoked to indict Trump for a campaign finance violation for an alleged payoff to stripper Stormy Daniels.
“Just because Alvin Bragg doesn’t punish an activity as a crime doesn’t mean it wasn’t a crime, (and it) doesn’t mean there isn’t a victim class that’s being expanded because the woke left doesn’t want to deal with the permanent criminal element that terrorizes people,” Gaetz told Newsmax.
House Republicans Subpoena Bragg’s Former Top Assistant
Last Thursday, GOP lawmakers on the House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena for testimony from Mark Pomerantz, once the top assistant to the George Soros-backed DA who recently secured a 34-count indictment of former President Donald Trump for an alleged federal campaign finance violation.
The Free Beacon noted that Pomerantz resigned from Bragg’s office in February 2022 because of a dispute over the Trump investigation.

As The Free Press recently reported, Trump’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, named both Bragg and Pomerantz in an ethics complaint for prosecutorial misconduct. He asserted the DA’s investigation of Trump was mere politics and cited Pomerantz’s book about Trump as proof.
In the book, “People vs. Donald Trump: An Inside Account,” Pomerantz rips Trump as a “malignant narcissist” and maybe a “megalomaniac” who “posed a real danger to the country and to the ideas that mattered to me.” “His behavior made me angry, sad, and even disgusted,” he added.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan ordered Pomerantz to testify on April 20.
“Congress has a specific and manifestly important interest in preventing politically motivated prosecutions of current and former Presidents,” Jordan wrote in the letter subpoenaing Pomerantz.

“Based on your unique role as a special assistant district attorney leading the investigation into President Trump’s finances, you are uniquely situated to provide information that is relevant and necessary to inform the Committee’s oversight and potential legislative reforms.”
The Free Beacon noted that Pomerantz was upset with Bragg and quit because he had suspended the probe into Trump. Pomerantz said at the time that he had “no doubt” that Trump was guilty of “numerous” felonies.
Jordan said in his letter that he wanted Pomerantz to testify because he thinks Bragg succumbed to pressure from him and other like-minded liberals to charge Trump.
Bragg has accused Trump of falsifying business records to hide a $130,000 payment in 2016 to stripper Stormy Daniels, an effort to cover up an alleged affair during Trump’s first presidential campaign.
Trump denies the affair and paying off Daniels.
