Call it the DeSantis Effect.
A local Republican in a Broward County city commission election prevailed in a town where Democrats hold a 2-1 advantage over GOP voters.
According to the Florida Standard, John Brodie received 40% of the vote on Tuesday in an election for a seat on the Coconut Creek City Commission, defeating candidates Nancy Fry and Alfred Delgado.
Brodie was the incumbent.
He had been appointed to the seat last April, Florida Standard reported, to replace a commissioner who resigned after it was revealed his home was in Fort Myers.

City Commission races in Coconut Creek are nonpartisan.
But Brodie campaigned on conservative values and was endorsed by the city Fire Department, Broward County’s police union, state Rep. Chip LaMarca, a Lighthouse Point Republican, veterans’ groups, and the special needs community.
With such backing, he prevailed in a city with 16,600 registered Democrats compared to 8,200 Republicans.
“All signs continue to show that Florida, in every corner of the state, is becoming more red by the day under Governor [Ron] DeSantis’ leadership,” Christian Ziegler, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, told The Florida Standard.
