HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Tips are sought to find the person responsible for injuries to a female dog abandoned in Lithia.

According to investigators, on February 24, 2023, a brown and white mixed breed female dog was found abandoned in a wooded area near Old Hopewell Road and Henry George Road in Lithia.

The dog had suffered a large laceration under her neck, requiring immediate medical care.

Hillsborough County Animal Control Officers set an overnight trap to contain the dog safely.

The following day, she was taken to the Pet Resource Center to undergo surgery to remove zip ties and electrical wire embedded in her neck.

Harper, her new name, is recovering well from her severe injuries and is being treated for heartworms. She is believed to be 2 years old, weighs 48 pounds and may have recently had a litter of puppies.
