RUSKIN, Fla. – John Skeen, 56, has been arrested in connection to Friday night’s fatal shooting in Ruskin.
According to deputies, on Friday, three friends stayed at a residence in the 300 block of Manatee Drive, Ruskin, for a fishing trip.
Investigators say that evening, the three went to a local bar and later returned home.
A verbal altercation ensued between the victim and Skeen. During the verbal altercation, the suspect discharged a firearm, which struck the victim and resulted in his death.

“What should have been a fun fishing trip filled with great memories, turned into a tragic weekend,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Violence is never the solution to a disagreement. Our hearts are with this victim’s family and we hope this arrest will bring some sense of closure to the loved ones.”
Skeen was arrested for Second Degree Murder with a Firearm in Polk County.
