A North Carolina man is facing several charges after kidnapping a woman and admitting to planning her mutilation and murder, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. He also expressed interest in cannibalism, deputies say.
According to WHNS, deputies responded to a call last Wednesday from a woman who had been attacked by a man she had just met earlier in the day.
The woman told deputies that Hunter Chase Nance, 24, approached her at a gas station and the pair exchanged phone numbers.

Later that day, deputies say Nance offered to pick up the woman and take her back to his home on Peaceful Lane in China Grove. When they got to his home, he allegedly locked the door and attacked her with a knife, deputies say.
The woman was able to escape the man’s home, and community members called first responders after seeing an injured woman walking down the road, according to the outlet.
“It’s unbelievable,” said his next-door neighbor to WHNS.
“I mean obviously it could’ve ended up worse. Thank God the girl was strong enough to fight him off and get away. Honestly, I’ve had thoughts go across my mind, ‘what if he tried to break in my house and get one of my daughters?’ That’s terrible that I even have that thought, I wish I hadn’t, but that is the reality of it right now.”

“It’s a fear. You don’t know who you’re living next to anymore,” added another neighbor, Richard Dawson.
Nance was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon at first, and was then given a first-degree kidnapping charge, according to the outlet.
Nance is being held on a $1.2 million bond and is scheduled to be in court on March 8.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement:
We would like to urge our citizens to please be careful when dealing with strangers. On February 15, deputies were called by a female who reported that she had been attacked by a male that she had met earlier in the day. At some point she agreed over the phone for the male to pick her up and the two arrived at his residence. Once inside the male attacked her with a knife. She was able to fight him off and ran from the scene with minor injuries. The offender, Hunter Chase Nance has been arrested, and is currently in the detention center. While being interviewed by detectives, he admitted that he had planned to kill the female for the thrill. So please please DO NOT get in a vehicle with strangers and definitely do not go to their residence with them. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
