LITHIA, Fla – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is on the scene of an approximately 50-acre brush fire at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office training grounds off SR39 in Lithia.

HCFR has 20 units and dozens of firefighters fighting the fire, which is estimated to be contained entirely; crews are managing hot spots.

HCFR has worked with the Florida Forest Service and both HCSO and Tampa Police Departments’ aviation units for three hours to contain the blaze.

Forestry has provided brush trucks and has cut fire stops in heavily wooded areas. HCSO and TPD have deployed helicopter buckets for rapid airborne water fire suppression operations.

Dry conditions, tall grass, topography, and brisk winds have been challenges overcome by firefighters. There have been no injuries during this prolonged operation, no structures were affected, and the cause is being investigated.
