Something bizarre is happening at The New York Times. It’s acting like a real newspaper, instead of a left-wing activist newsletter.

According to The Daily Wire, the Times has become a target of criticism by its core constituency because it has chosen recently to spotlight the adverse effects of the trans agenda.

The Times over the past few months, has published some stories critical of transgender activism and agenda. Some of those pieces, for example, called attention to the ill effects of so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors, and the struggles of “detransitioners.”

On Thursday, Daily Wire noted that the Times had published an op-ed defending British author J.K. Rowling, who has been staunchly critical of claims by trans women to be actual women.

This week, however, the LGBTQ lobby counterpunched.

A group of nearly 200 Times’ contributors issued an open letter to the paper’s management, decrying an “editorial bias in the newspaper’s reporting on transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming people.”

“As thinkers, we are disappointed to see the New York Times follow the lead of far-right hate groups in presenting gender diversity as a new controversy warranting new, punitive legislation,” the letter stated.

The group then issued a threat if the Times did not reverse itself and go back to coddling the LGBTQ agenda, although it wasn’t clear what would happen if the Times didn’t.

The letter noted, “We have seen those we love discover and fight for their true selves, often swimming upstream against currents of bigotry and pseudoscience fomented by the kind of coverage we here protest.”

“There is no rapt reporting on the thousands of parents who simply love and support their children, or on the hardworking professionals at the New York Times enduring a workplace made hostile by bias—a period of forbearance that ends today.”

The Times’ management, however, fired back.

According to Daily Wire, the Times “slammed scores of woke employees who signed onto a letter this week criticizing the newspaper’s coverage of transgender issues.”

In a statement, Executive Editor Joseph Kahn called the claims by the staff activists “demonstrably false.”

He added, “Participation in such a campaign [of trying to shame other employees] is against the letter and spirit of our ethics policy.”

“Our coverage of transgender issues, including the specific pieces singled out for attack, is important, deeply reported, and sensitively written,” Khan continued. “The journalists who produced those stories nonetheless have endured months of attacks, harassment and threats. … We do not welcome, and will not tolerate, participation by Times journalists in protests organized by advocacy groups or attacks on colleagues on social media and other public forums.”

“We live in an era when journalists regularly come under fire for doing solid and essential work. We are committed to protecting and supporting them. Their work distinguishes this institution, and makes us proud.”

In response to the whole controversy ignited at the Times, Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro noted, “They have actually been covering the news. Now, this is something the Left is not used to. And you’ve got to sympathize with the Left because for literally decades, all The New York Times did was basically cover the left-wing agenda and do so in glowing fashion.”

“And now the alphabet people are very, very angry at them,” Shapiro added. “And they’re looking to cancel The New York Times and particular writers. They want those writers punished.”

“The New York Times’ reporting on this [transgender issues] has been shockingly decent,” he continued.

Yet, “The New York Times deserves every iota of this. You guys decided to feed, pet, ride, join with the alligator. And now the alligator is eating you. And you guys have it coming.”
