SPRING HILL, Fla.- At 4:49 p.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) received a 911 call for a residential fire at in the 13000 block of Drayton Dr. HCFES responded to the scene within 2 minutes and found heavy smoke and fire showing from the roof.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions above the garage in the attic. Firefighters made an aggressive attack of the fire and brought it under control at 5:02 p.m. The attic turbine fan on the roof allowed the fire to self-ventilate and minimize the spread across the entire attic space. The attic sustained heavy damage resulting from the fire.
The owners were inside and unaware of the fire. A passerby saw the fire, turned around and warned the occupants that the house was on fire. The owners exited the house, and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation by State Fire Marshall’s Office.
HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ALS medic units, 2 Battalion Chiefs, Fire Corps. There was total of 15 fire personnel on scene.
Due to the extensive damage to the attic the house is not able to be inhabited. The owners were referred to Red Cross for assistance.
HCFES would like to remind the community to practice fire drills regularly and establish a meeting place outside.
