SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating two fatal hit-and-run crashes on Friday, January 27, 2023, on Fruitville Road. Officers do not believe the two crashes are connected.
The first hit-and-run crash happened near Fruitville Road and Orange Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, January 27.
The victim, an adult man, age 56, of Sarasota, was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were obvious signs that the man had been hit by a vehicle.
The gentleman passed away from his injuries at the hospital a short time later. The name of the victim is being withheld under Marsy’s Law. There were no known witnesses to this crash.

The second hit-and-run crash happened near Fruitville Road and Beneva Road at about 11:50 p.m.
When officers with the Traffic Unit responded to the first crash, they were notified of the second. When officers arrived, the victim, an adult man, age 64, of Tennessee, was found deceased at the scene.
The name of the victim is being withheld under Marsy’s Law. Witnesses told officers that the victim was hit by a vehicle, and the driver and vehicle did not remain at the scene.
