SARASOTA, Fla. – Eugenia Bright, 43, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing charges of Second Degree Murder in connection to a suspicious death that happened on November 21, 2022.
Sarasota Police officers responded to the 800 block of Mecca Drive, Sarasota, just before 11 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022, for a welfare check.
Officers arrived on the scene, followed by rescue workers. The caller told dispatch Bright did not show up for work and was concerned.
Rescue workers found Bright in and out of unconscious on a bed, and she was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Officers saw blood on the door and floor and found a 53-year-old man deceased on the floor.
The name of the victim is withheld under Marsy’s Law.

Officers also found a large knife and a handwritten note with funeral requests.
Sarasota Police detectives had probable cause to charge Bright with Second Degree Murder. Bright was taken to the Sarasota County Jail and is currently being held on no bond.
Detectives believe, based on their investigation, this was an isolated incident, and the public is not in danger.
