You’d think Democrats would be able to remember the name of one of the most devastating hurricanes to ever hit Florida — especially since it happened less than two months ago they want to use it as a political tool to cudgel Republicans on climate change.
Yet recently both President Joe Biden and gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist tried to rally voters with references to Hurricane Ivan, which hit Florida in 2004.
During an appearance for Crist on Tuesday, Biden said, “Last time I was in Florida, it was almost a month ago, because of hurricane Ivan — Ian, excuse me.” Except he pronounced it as “ion.”
One thought Crist, who doesn’t share Biden’s age or mental competency issues, would do better.
Yet as the conservative website, The Floridian pointed out last month, Democrats and the Crist campaign both referred to Ivan.
The Duval County Democratic party posted online about an outreach event to offer supplies to Ian’s victims. Although the graphic stated Ian, the text above it heralded the arrival of the “Charlie Crist Outreach Bus for Ivan Recovery!”
The Floridian noted that the same error was mentioned in an email sent promoting the Crist campaign.
The notice did note Hurricane Ian, but then added the appearance of the “Charlie Crist Outreach Bus for Hurricane Ivan Recovery.”
While Ivan made landfall in Alabama, it wrecked much of the area around Pensacola and points east, causing billions of dollars in damage in Florida and killing eight Sunshine State residents.
