LAKELAND, Fla. – Trillyon Fils-Aime, a Junior and a current wrestler at Southeastern University, began wrestling his freshman year of high school at Palmetto Ridge High School located in Naples, Fl.
After suffering a football injury his sophomore year, Trillyon began to wrestle with his younger brothers at home and it increased his love for the sport.
In his junior year, Trillyon placed 5th in the state.
As Trillyon’s senior year approached, tragedy struck. A good friend of his, who was an influence on his wrestling career, was involved in a car accident and sadly passed away.
“He taught me a lot about wrestling. I would watch his matches and pick up on his styles. After his passing, it pushed me to work harder.” At the end of his senior year, Trillyon won state.
As he prepared for college, Trillyon was called by Southeastern University, and it led to his commitment to the wrestling team. A decision that he nor his family expected. “I would cry about football games, but now I don’t care about football. I knew since I was a Junior in high school I loved wrestling.”
Despite his doubts, Coaches Travis Patrick and Koby Reyes shared otherwise: “Trill is a tremendous asset to our team, and his dedication does not go unnoticed. I am excited I get to be in his corner as he continues to build off of last year’s successes.”
Trillyon has come a long way since his freshman year of high school and wrestling has equipped him to be the best man he can be.
“I am a competitor, I am here to compete and I know I am not in this alone. My coaches helped me re-fall in love with the sport, and I’ve learned to not let negativity block my focus. As long as I’m building this craft, I’m going to get better, and with God out there with me, I know I’ll succeed,” Trillyon said.
