A pair of GOP lawmakers from Florida have joined an effort denouncing President Joe Biden’s draining the nation’s strategic oil reserves.
Reps. Bill Posey and Daniel Webster, of Rockledge and Clermont, respectively, were among 30 Republican members of Congress who joined Texas Rep. Randy Weber in slamming Biden for the ploy.
Beginning in March, Biden has ordered that 180 million barrels of oil be pumped and sold from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve. He directed his administration to sell off the last 15 million barrels of that stock last week.
The resolution notes that the 714-million-barrel reservoir was created in 1975.
Over the past 47 years, “there have only been three emergency drawdowns from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in its history — during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and, in coordination with the International Energy Agency, responding to instability in the Middle East and North Africa in 2011.”

Then came Biden.
After he “irresponsibly attacked” U.S. oil producers and promoted the “exclusive use” of “not entirely reliable” wind and solar energy sources, Biden was forced to tap the SPR.
Accordingly, as of Sept. 30, the SPR contained just 416.4 million barrels of oil, the lowest level since December 1985.
The pumping of the SPR is “significantly affecting the ability of the United States to respond to natural disasters or an attack on the United States,” the GOP members argued.
Biden’s “irresponsible withdrawal of petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a threat to the security of the United States,” Weber’s resolution continued, adding that Biden’s push to “artificially lower gas prices at the expense of the national security of the United States is motivated by political, rather than economic or security reasons.”

In conclusion, the Republicans advocate the resolution to recognize that Biden’s “attack on domestic production of oil and gas” has left America “energy dependent,” and that they want him “to halt the sale of petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and to begin replenishing the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.”
In a statement, Rep. Weber added, “We are 639 days into Joe Biden’s disastrous presidency, and it has been an all-out assault against American energy.”
“This is no longer about reducing gas prices for political gain; now he’s recklessly gutting our energy defense.”
