SPRING HILL, Fla. – Two vehicles were destroyed in an overnight fire that happened in a detached garage in Spring Hill.
According to officials, at 12:53 a.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a reported residential fire in the 8,000 block of Pinehurst Dr.
The call came from a neighbor, followed by a second call from the homeowner who reported a fire in the detached garage.
HCFES arrived within 5 minutes and reported heavy smoke and flames from a detached garage in the rear of the residence. There was also a fire in two plastic sheds that contained fuel, paint, and solvents located behind the carport.
The fire also involved the nearby grass, trees, and wooden dock. The crews advanced a hose stream and contained the fire within 7 minutes.

The fire was kept to the area of origin; however, there was a total loss of two classic Oldsmobiles that were parked under the carport. The fire was deemed under control at 1:16 a.m.
The Florida State Fire Marshall was called to investigate the cause of the fire. The investigator determined the fire originated in or around the plastic sheds behind the carport. The exact cause was undetermined after the investigation.
HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 ALS medic units, 1 Air/Light Truck, and 2 Battalion Chiefs, for a total of 19 personnel.
