Hedge Fund Manager, A Recent Florida Transplant, Coughs Up $100 Million To Defeat Democrats

Hedge fund manager Ken Griffin left Chicago earlier this year and took his $29 billion fortune with him to South Florida.

Now, he’s spreading a healthy chunk of that money around the political realm so other areas don’t face the fate of Chicago.

According to the conservative website El American, Griffin is donating $100 million to help elect Republicans during 2022.

About half of that funding went to support Richard Irvin, a Republican running for governor of Illinois. Irvin lost in the GOP primary.

But ultimately, Griffin was seeking to rid his former state of Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker, one of Griffin’s prominent critics.

As The Free Press reported in July, Pritzker headlined a Democratic fundraiser and called out Griffin by name.

“So like a spoiled rich kid, Griffin announced he was taking his toys and leaving Illinois,” Pritzker told the Democrats at the event.“Where did he move to? You guessed it. His $400 million, 20-acre Palm Beach estate. And he’s one of Ron DeSantis’ largest donors.”

“Really, really sorry about that,” he added.

But Griffin left Chicago because Democrats cannot control crime. He said he was motivated to leave the Windy City in part because one of his employees got mugged.

Beyond Irvin, Griffin has given to several conservative super PACs supporting candidates around the nation, including $18.5 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, $10 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, $8.8 million to Honor Pennsylvania, and $3.5 million to the Strong Leaders Fund.

Yet according to a recent CNBC report, Griffin is just third among wealthy donors.

Richard Uihlein, owner of a shipping company, is No. 2, having given $53 million, also to support Republicans.

But Griffin and Uihlein combined are still $25 million short of left-wing billionaire George Soros, who has donated $128 million to defeat Republicans.
