Hillsborough County Lifts Evacuation Order, Shelters Prepare To Conclude Operations

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – As the path of Hurricane Ian takes it and its imminent hazardous conditions away from Hillsborough County, and following initial safety assessments, County Administrator Bonnie M. Wise has rescinded existing Orders of Evacuation for Hillsborough County.

After sheltering over 8,000 evacuees in 47 general population, pet-friendly, and special-needs shelters, Hillsborough County is preparing to conclude sheltering operations or transition shelter availability for evacuees who continue to need assistance. Residents whose homes have been damaged are encouraged to find a safe place to stay. That place might be with family, friends, or at a nearby hotel.

Public officials urge residents returning to their homes to drive with caution, paying attention to the roadway, not drive through obstructions or standing water, and to stay away from downed power lines. Be aware that some traffic signals are not functioning. Always remain alert when driving.
