CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater mandatory evacuation orders for residents in Levels A, B and C were lifted at 9 a.m. today.
Residents are asked to stay off the roads once the storm has passed to allow crews to complete damage assessment.
Access to Clearwater Beach and the Memorial Causeway Bridge are now open with no restrictions. Beach and residents who live in Levels A, B and C are urged to remain cautious when returning to their homes.
Treat intersections with inoperable traffic lights as a four-way stop and never drive through flooded areas. Turn around, don’t drown.
Hazardous conditions may still exist. Downed trees and power lines have been reported across the county. Electricity can spread outward through the ground.
Plan for extra travel time as operations return to normal and be mindful of crews on the road.
Do not walk in floodwater. Waste, wildlife and other hazards can contaminate waters and cause illness or harm.
Keep generators in well-ventilated locations outside, away from all doors, windows and vent openings.
There will be no trash and recycling collections today, Thursday, Sept. 29. Service will resume Friday, Sept. 30. Crews will pick up at the addresses of those who normally have service on Thursday. On Saturday, Oct. 1, crews will pick up at the address of those who normally have service on Friday.
Keep trash, recycling bins and yard waste at least three feet from nearby mailboxes, fire hydrants, vehicles and other obstacles to safe solid waste collection.
The water system experienced minimal damage. There may be a water line issue at Bay Esplanade on the beach, and utility crews are investigating. Nine of the city’s sanitary sewer lift stations are on generator power, and 10 wells are offline because they have no power.
The drinking water system is safe and operating properly. There are no boil water notices.
Clearwater city offices will remain closed Thursday, Sept. 29, and will resume regular business hours Friday, Sept. 30. Staff is assessing damage, if the facility has power and cleaning facility grounds for Clearwater’s indoor and outdoor facilities and will determine a reopening plan for Clearwater recreation facilities and libraries.
