Florida Department Of Health: Refill Or Pack Your Prescriptions Now As Pre-Storm Planning

During an emergency, your access to regular health and medical services may be limited. Under Florida's Emergency Refill Bill (Florida Statute 252.358 and 462.0275), you have access to expanded prescription refills when a State of Emergency is declared by the Governor.

During an emergency, your access to regular health and medical services may be limited. Under Florida’s Emergency Refill Bill (Florida Statute 252.358 and 462.0275), you have access to expanded prescription refills when a State of Emergency is declared by the Governor.

In addition to picking up additional refills for your medications, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) recommends you prepare by taking these measures, especially if you are asked to evacuate your home:

Keep your prescription medications in their labeled containers. Place bottled and packaged medications in a plastic bag to keep them dry and protect them from extreme temperatures.

Make a list of all your medications: how they should be taken, what time, etc. List any allergies, as well as foods you need to avoid. Your doctor’s name and emergency phone number should also be on this list. Put one copy with your medications, give one to a friend and keep one with you.

Pack your medications now so you’re ready to go at a moment’s notice. Oxygen-dependent residents should bring their concentrators if they are evacuating to a special-needs shelter.

Keep any prescription narcotic pain medications with you at all times.

If you are on a special diet or require special supplements, pack a two-week supply.

If you are using respiratory medications with a nebulizer, bring your prescriptions with you.
