GOP Primary Results Challenged For Two Florida Congressional Seats

Voters and a losing candidate have filed lawsuits in Leon County circuit court challenging the results of Republican primaries last month for two congressional seats.

Five voters filed a lawsuit Thursday challenging U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster’s primary victory over Laura Loomer in Congressional District 11 in Lake, Orange, Polk, and Sumter counties.

The lawsuit seeks to invalidate the certification of the primary results by the state Elections Canvassing Commission and seeks a runoff election between Webster and Loomer. “(Fundamentally), this election contest is based upon numerous types of misconduct by election officials sufficient to change or place in doubt the result of the election, and the resultant receipt of a number of illegal votes sufficient to change or place in doubt the result of the election,” the lawsuit said.

Meanwhile, Darlene Swaffar, who lost a GOP primary to Joe Budd in Congressional District 23 in Palm Beach and Broward counties, filed a lawsuit Saturday challenging the results.

Swaffar is requesting, in part, that the election results be “set aside” and that a hand recount be conducted.
