TAMPA, Fla. – Bucs quarterback Tom Brady still has not publicly stated why he took 11 days off from training camp.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles says it really wasn’t that much time that Brady missed, but the 7-time Super Bowl Champ will start in the final preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.
In fact, all players cleared to practice will play Sat.
“Everyone that’s healthy will play, ” Bowles said. We got together as a staff and as a team, we understand we want to see certain things, so we’re putting everybody out there.”
Brady took a veteran day off on Wednesday, just 2 days back from his pre-planned time off. Brady looked sharp at Wednesday’s practice and Bowles admits that Brady and the offense are just needing some time to play together, in a game.
“It’s important for game continuity, ” Bowles said. “We have some new guys on the o-line and we have some new guys at receiver, so other than having practiced together, we need to see them in a game, in certain situations, just the flow of it. No matter how long it is, we just need to see it.”
Brady was rumored to be in the Bahamas with his family during his leave. There was of course the outlandish rumor that he was on the Masked Singer. But Brady has elected not to do any media interviews, so speculation continues to run rampant. Since Brady asked to take time off, will we see more of this from some other players? Bowles thinks not.
“If it wasn’t a situation that we hadn’t talked about and wasn’t important, I wouldn’t have done it,” Bowles said. “So obviously, I have that relationship, as do the coaches with a lot of players and they all have private things they come to us with. His (Tom Brady) came to light more than others and we won’t sway away from that. We don’t give nobody breaks just to take breaks.”
Meanwhile, the Bucs have waived-injured wide receiver Cyril Grayson Jr but signed veteran outside linebacker Genard Avery. Avery has played for the Browns, and Eagles and spent the 2022 offseason and training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
