It turns out we don’t need the Ministry of Truth after all. A Homeland Security Advisory Council subcommittee on Monday declared that there was no need for a Disinformation Governance Board within the Department of Homeland Security, The Washington Times reported Monday.
“We are not ready, as of yet, to provide recommendations on the Department’s most effective approach to disinformation threats, including commitments to increase transparency and protect civil rights, civil liberties, and privacy,” the subcommittee said in its report.
“However, at this point, we have concluded that there is no need for a Disinformation Governance Board.”
The decision is just a recommendation. But Republicans took as final and celebrated another setback for President Joe Biden nonetheless.
The board was alleged to have been created to fight “disinformation” about the government.

A radical so-called disinformation expert, Nina Jankowicz, was set to lead the panel. But then conservatives began to point out the ironic hypocrisy.
Jankowicz herself had a long history of spreading left-wing disinformation.
That included, as The Free Press reported in May, her public assertions that the discredited and infamous dossier created by former British spy Christopher Steele showed that former President Donald Trump was in cahoots with Russian operatives.
Jankowicz also asserted that the New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s laptop files, and their proof of claims that Joe Biden knew more than he said about Hunter’s shady business deals, was a Russian disinformation campaign.
Jankowicz had also promoted the idea, widely spread in the liberal media during Trump’s campaign, that Trump had backchannels to a Russian bank.
All of those stories have been debunked.
“Hate to say we told you so,” the Republican side of the House Homeland Security Committee posted on Twitter on Monday. That panel includes Florida Reps. Kat Cammack and Carlos Gimenez.
“From its initially botched rollout, the ‘Ministry of Truth’ lacked a defined mission or even direction. It was clear it was a political tool to be wielded by the party in control.”
