RUSKIN, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire Friday evening at a residence on Dovesong Trace in Ruskin.
HCFR’s Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call for a possible structure fire at 5:48 PM.
The first arriving crews from HCFR s Engine 17 initially reported no smoke or flames visible from the front of the home.
However, it took crews less than one minute to determine the fire was in the attic. The firefighters stretched a two-inch handline through the front door and up the stairs, extinguishing the flames in the attic in just five minutes.
Their quick discovery of the location of the fire, along with rapid deployment and use of the attack line, kept the blaze from rapidly spreading throughout the attic.
Primary and secondary searches were completed to verify no occupants were in the structure. There were no injuries to civilians or first responders.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire was a lightning strike.
