First Lady Casey DeSantis Makes First Campaign Appearance Since Her Battle with Breast Cancer

Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis Receives Honor For Her Inspiring Battle Against Cancer

A GOP women’s group in Fort Myers recognized Florida first lady Casey DeSantis, who recently overcame a battle with breast cancer, with its award for inspiration.

According to Fox News, DeSantis received the honor, formally called the Woman of Inspiration Award, at the Women of Distinction Awards Program and Gala. The annual event seeks to honor Republican women who have made significant strides in their communities or in their careers.

In her comments, Casey praised her husband for defending families and standing fast on issues important to mothers specifically, Fox news noted. Chief among those was education, as Casey cited Florida’s new Parental Rights in Education law. The law prohibits public school districts and classroom teachers from implementing lesson plans rooted in sexual orientation or gender identity.

“We are mammas on a mission to protect our children. In Florida, the buck stops with the parents,” she said.

“In Florida, school board members are term-limited, something I wish would apply to members of Congress in Washington,” Casey added.

During her remarks, Casey also talked about the boost in Florida’s population, and what that has meant politically for Florida – and the chances Gov. DeSantis will be re-elected.

“Now with more folks moving to Florida – you may be asking – will they vote for the failed policies of the states they’ve left behind?” she said.

“Well, to give you an idea … When the governor was elected in 2018, there were nearly 300,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans,” she said. “There are now 176,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats.”

“I think it’s safe to say that people across the nation fled to Florida for freedom,” she added.

Casey returned to campaigning for the governor’s re-election about a month ago, about seven months after the mother of three was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“No matter what you;’re going through in life, no matter how hard things seem like they are, no matter how hard it feels like you have to pick yourself off the ground, and you feel like your back is against the wall, fight. Fight like hell,” Casey said at the time.

“Never, ever give up. Never, ever back down. I am a testament that God is great, God is good, and hope is alive.”
