Uber Driver A Suspect In Sexual Battery Case Of Intoxicated Woman

On May 2, an investigator with the Hillsborough County’s Sheriff’s Office obtained the buccal (cheek) DNA saliva swab of an Uber driver who allegedly committed sexual battery on an intoxicated female passenger.

TAMPA, Fla. – On May 2, an investigator with the Hillsborough County’s Sheriff’s Office obtained the buccal (cheek) DNA saliva swab of an Uber driver who allegedly committed sexual battery on an intoxicated female passenger.

The swab was obtained through a Search Warrant granted by the Hillsborough County court system on April 6.

The Uber driver was accused of sexual assault by a patron who is identified as “G.S.” in Search Warrant documents. The Sheriff’s Office was called to Advent Health, located on Sheldon Road in Tampa, where Anthony Oliveras Rivera, 42, was accused by “G.S.” of the sexual battery.

“G.S.” admitted that on December 3, 2021, she was severely intoxicated at the Tangra Nightclub in Ybor when a female stranger voluntarily arranged for her an Uber lift.

According to the Search Warrant, “The Uber ride was ordered by a female who identified herself as “Bella” who texted G.S. a screenshot of the Uber ride details from her cell phone…The ride details from Uber displayed the following: A picture of Anthony…Trip details…Honda Accord DUWX28…” Other information included the address of the nightclub and “G.S.’s” Odessa address.

The Search Warrant indicates G.S. accepted the ride to her home, but then realized she had forgotten her keys. She requested the Uber driver to take her to the Barrymore Hotel where friends were staying.

During that trip, according to the Search Warrant, “G.S. reported at some point during the ride the driver digitally penetrated her. G.S. could not say if any other type of assault occurred due to her severe intoxication, but could not rule it out.”

The detective on the case wrote that the total trip time took two extra hours. It is suspected this is the time period of the alleged digital sexual battery.

On February 2, the detective received a report from The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Laboratory. It stated that under analysis, the presence of one male’s DNA was secured from examination of “G.S.”

Results of the buccal DNA swab are not yet available to confirm Rivera’s involvement in this incident.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office does not comment on pending cases.
