At the rate he’s going, President Joe Biden himself may be the first person investigated by his new “Ministry of Truth.”
That’s because this week, Biden offered a couple of whoppers so egregious – and disinformative – that his media allies called on him to retract his comments.
One example occurred Thursday.
On its official Twitter account, the White House tweeted, “When President Biden took office, millions were unemployed, and there was no vaccine available. In the last 15 months, the economy has created 8.3M jobs, and the unemployment rate stands at 3.6% — the fastest decline in unemployment to start a President’s term ever recorded.”
There was a problem with that statement, however. It was a lie.
Conservatives on Twitter quickly reposted a tweet from Biden’s own account, showing him getting his first COVID-19 jab. “Today, I received the COVID-19 vaccine. To the scientists and researchers who worked tirelessly to make this possible — thank you. We owe you an awful lot. And to the American people — know there is nothing to worry about. When the vaccine is available, I urge you to take it,” Biden said in the tweet.
Which was dated Dec. 21, 2020, almost one month to the day before Biden took office.
New York nurse Sandra Lindsay actually received the nation’s first vaccine more than week before Biden did.
In fact, Biden got his second dose on Jan. 13, 2021, a week before he entered office.
The data-tracking site Our World in Data reported on the day Biden was inaugurated, Jan. 20, 2021, that abnut 19 million Americans had received at least one shot.
According to the website Statistia, roughly 1.5 million Americans were vaccinated on that day alone, and by his third day in office, the seven-day rolling average of COVID vaccines would top 1 million.
Blowback from conservatives would be expected. But some media liberals also opened fire.
On Twitter, Washington Post “fact-checker” Glenn Kessler tweeted, “Who’s manning the @WhiteHouse Twitter account? Delete this false tweet. Biden himself has said 8% of seniors had gotten the vaccine on the day he took office. Biden was one of them.”
CNN’s “fact-checker” Daniel Dale noted on Twitter, “’There was no vaccine available’ is very clearly false. More than 3 million Americans were fully vaccinated, and more than 18 million had at least one dose by Biden’s Inauguration Day. Biden himself was fully vaccinated.”
“Obviously became more widely available with time, but no doubt, and they’re free to tweet ‘the vaccine wasn’t available to much of the public’ or whatever,” he added. “’There was no vaccine available,’ the end, goes way too far given that there were nearly 19 million people with shots, wrongly suggesting the whole rollout began under Biden.”
The White House lie was so obvious that the liberal media could not let it pass.
But, for Dale, it was the second time he handed the president an L for a comment.
Last week, Biden was claiming he reduced the federal deficit by $350 billion during his first year in office. The federal government, he added, was on pace to reduce the deficit by $1.5 trillion overall by Sept. 30. Biden maintained it ws “the largest drop ever.”
Dale said on CNN on Tuesday that there was “no doubt” the deficit decreased under Biden.
But Biden actually kept a relatively good thing from getting even better, he explained.
Said Dale, “Experts I spoke to still scoffed at the idea that President Biden is personally responsible for having reduced the deficit. In fact, one advocate of deficit reduction, Marc Goldwein of the Committee for Responsible Federal Budget, told me that this claim is almost bizarro world, a reversal of reality … because the deficit was expected to fall by more than $360 billion at the time President Biden took office.”
“In fact, at the time, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office had projected that the deficit would fall by more than $870 billion in 2021 if President Biden did not implement new policy,” Dale added.
During his first year, Biden enacted massive spending programs for things like pandemic relief, infrastructure improvements, and expanding food stamp benefits.
“Whatever you think of all those policies, they all cost money. So there ended up being less deficit reduction than expected,” Dale continued.
He pointed out that the “explosion” of spending growth in Trump’s last year because of pandemic programs and the collapse of the economy crashed was temporary, and things would return to normal at some point.
“Because a lot of that 2020 spending was short-term, the deficit was almost certainly going to fall in the coming years no matter who is president,” said Dale. “So, when President Biden talks about a projected $1.5 trillion decline in the deficit this year, even if that does happen, the deficit would still be higher this year than initially projected when he took office.”
So, is anyone notifying the Disinformation Governance Board to stop Biden’s disinformation campaign?
