A plane crash in Florida has killed two people and critically injured another two others, according to reports.
Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel says one of the people killed was William “Randy” McCroan, a deputy and school resource officer for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Kimbrel added that it was McCroan’s last day as a School Resource Officer.
“We are sad to report a plane crash with a deputy on board. The plane was a private aircraft that crashed upon takeoff,” said Florida Sheriff’s Association in a social post.
The other person killed has been identified as Steve Mears, Jr.
Two other men on board were life-flighted, in critical condition, to Tallahassee Medical Hospital, WCTV reported.
“Our prayers go out to all these families and this community who are impacted by this tragedy,” said FSA.
Sheriff Kimbrel said the Cessna 172 four-seater plane took off from the Calhoun County Airport and crashed around 4:40 p.m. central time on Tuesday, according to a WCTV report. He also told News Channel 7 that the crash happened as the plane was taking off.
Kimbrell added that an investigation is now underway by the FAA.
