Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, “Policy Matters. Leadership Matters”

Today, Governor DeSantis announced the launch of First Lady Casey DeSantis’ statewide initiative: The Facts. Your Future.

Florida’s first lady Casey DeSantis sang the praises of her husband this week, Gov. Ron DeSantis, noting that his leadership is driving more and more people into the Republican Party.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, the first lady said, “Policy Matters. Leadership Matters. Floridians overwhelming support @RonDeSantisFL and his freedom agenda.”

“Since Election Day 2020, we’ve seen a net gain of +250,000 voters register as Republicans. Today, we have more than +116,000 more Republicans than Democrats in the state,” she added.

Casey likely had access to more current numbers than the state Division of Elections has posted on its website. There, Republicans lead Democrats by about 111,000 registered voters.

Still, that lead is nothing short of astonishing.

Just last November, Gov. DeSantis was trumpeting the fact that the GOP had erased the Democrats’ lead among registered voters for the first time in state history. Florida became a state in 1845.

At that time, DeSantis noted that when he was elected in 2018, the Democrats held a 280,000-voter advantage.

The voters’ confidence in DeSantis is manifesting in a couple of ways.

For one thing, DeSantis has banked more than $100 million for his re-election bid this year, the first gubernatorial candidate to reach that plateau without being self-funded. That amount is about seven times the combined total raised by his Democratic opponents.

Meanwhile, the Real Clear Politics average of various polls shows DeSantis with an 8.8 point advantage over Democratic U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, considered the top challenger to Desantis from the left.

The incumbent leads Democratic state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, currently running second to Crist, by 12.8 points, and outpaces state Sen. Annette Taddeo by 16 points.
