ST. PETERSBURG, FL. – This year marks the 75th anniversary of baseball legend Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he played in his first Major League game with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
In honor of this historic event, the St. Petersburg Museum of History will offer free admission on Jackie Robinson Day: Friday, April 15.
Visitors can see a baseball signed by Robinson himself in Schrader’s Little Cooperstown, the Museum’s exhibit featuring the World’s Largest Collection of Autographed Baseballs (Guinness-certified).
Those visiting the Museum in the afternoon will also catch a glimpse of the newest edition to the collection: the 5,000 baseballs to be signed by St. Petersburg Mayor Welch the same day.
The Museum is open Friday, 10 AM-5 PM, and parking can be found in the St. Pete Pier’s Dolphin Lot.
In addition to Schrader’s exhibit, the Museum’s other exhibits include:
- Building the Sunshine City – The Hough Family Gallery’s main exhibit that explores the Sunshine City’s creation, from pre-pioneer days to now.
- Flight One Gallery – The only functioning replica of the Benoist airboat, the world’s first commercial airliner, similar to what Tony Jannus flew in his historic 1914 flight.
- St. Petersburg Gallery – Artifacts and pieces from the early days of St. Pete to now, featuring items from the famous Webb’s City.
The Odditorium – A collection of unique pieces that have found their way to St. Pete, including a 3,000-year-old mummy.
