A Florida man landed behind bars after accidentally shooting himself in the groin with a gun he stole from a friend.
According to reports, 21-year-old Xavier Matthews was attempting a car burglary in the parking lot of a takeaway outlet in Jacksonville in Florida when the gun went off.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told a local news station, Action News Jax, that Matthews was found lying in a ditch after the incident last Sunday.
“Witnesses at the scene told police before the shooting, they saw a seemingly intoxicated Matthews attempting to break into strangers’ vehicles,” Action News Jax reported.
“Matthews was identified through fingerprints was and found to have two active warrants for robbery. Investigators believe he accidentally shot himself with a gun that was taken from a man on March 15.”
Police said Matthews was arrested and charged with breaching probation, carrying a concealed weapon, and armed robbery. He is being held in the county jail custody on no bond.
