HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – Hillsborough County will celebrate the grand opening Friday of a new esports lounge at Emanuel P. Johnson Park & Recreation Center, the second esports gaming room created and run by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation.
Multiplayer video gaming is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, with millions of participants, a growing pool of professional gamers, and online tournaments that draw huge audiences. Hillsborough County’s esports program creates a fun, competitive gaming experience while promoting inclusion and a sense of community for participants of all ages.
At Emanuel P. Johnson Park & Recreation Center, 5855 S. 78th St., Tampa, FL 33619, participants play esports in a dedicated gaming room with several 65-inch televisions. Gaming chairs, controllers, and games are provided, including popular titles like Fortnite, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, Mario Kart, and others.
Games can be played with single players or teams and can include online participants from other locations and opportunities to participate in tournaments. To maintain a positive environment for players, the games’ audio and chat functions are disabled. Participation is free.
The grand opening for the esports lounge at Emanuel P. Johnson Park & Recreation Center will be from 5-8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 25. Open play days will be Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6:30 p.m.
In November, Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation opened its first esports gaming room at Northdale Park & Recreation Center.
