The bill, which liberals misleadingly call “Don’t Say Gay,” would ban school districts from teaching gender politics and sexual orientation issues to children up to, and including third grade.
On Fox News, Florida’s Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez discussed the parental rights bill and pleaded for people to just “read the bill”.
“I think the radical left and people like Jen Psaki are too, busy regurgitating, the same old tired talking points,” said Florida’s Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez. “They should just read the bill.”
“This bill is about parental rights. It’s about making sure that children are not indoctrinated. You know, my parents came from Cuba in 1961 fleeing, communism, the very things that we’re trying to avoid kids were being indoctrinated. They were being made wards of the state and so we’re very firm here in Florida under Governor DeSantis’s leadership that we want to protect our children,” added Nuñez.
“We want to give parents the ultimate decision-making and everything from their education, to their health care. And so, I think that that is something that we pride ourselves on. And if people would just simply read the bill, Oh they would see that this is something all parents myself, included agree with strenuously,” concluded Nuñez.

In part, the section that has created an uproar reads:
Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.

In a move anyone on the right could have predicted, Disney CEO Bob Chapek ended a week of silence and appearing above the fray, formally denouncing the Parental Rights in Education bill.
Chapek had declined to comment publicly for over a week as the Republican-led Legislature chugged toward adopting the measure.
For his stand on not taking a stand, Chapel faced ugly criticism from LGBT activists, Disney employees, and liberals generally. Calls for boycotting the Magic Kingdom were issued.
The left-wing social media chorus called for boycotts after Chapek said in a memo to employees that Disney “‘unequivocally’ stands with its LGBTQ+ employees, but wouldn’t directly condemn the controversial bill making its way through the Florida legislature.”
Signaling his position, despite his silence, Chapek added in a memo, “I do not want anyone to mistake a lack of statement for a lack of support. We all share the same goal of a more tolerant, respectful world. Where we may differ is in the tactics to get there.”
Last Wednesday, he revealed those tactics.
“While we’ve been strong supporters of the (LGBTQ) community for decades, I know that many are upset that we did not speak out against the bill. Now, we were opposed to the bill from the outset, but we chose not to take a public position on it because we thought we could be more effective working behind the scenes, engaging directly with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle,” Chapek told shareholders during the meeting, according to WKMG in Orlando.
He also mentioned that he had appealed directly to Gov. Ron DeSantis, who heard his “disappointment and concern” about the education bill.
“The governor heard our concerns in agreeing to meet with me and LGBTQ+ members of our senior team in Florida to discuss ways to address them,” Chapek added. “Certainly the outcome in Florida was not what many of us were hoping for, especially our LGBTQ+ employees.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slammed Disney for its opposition to the state’s parental rights legislation in a video shared by Fox News last week.
“When you have companies that have made a fortune off being family-friendly and catering to families and young kids, they should understand that parents of young kids do not want this injected into their kid’s kindergarten classroom,” DeSantis said in the video. “They do not want their first-graders to go and be told that they can choose an opposite gender.”
“If that’s the hill they’re [Disney] gonna die on, how do they possibly explain lining their pockets with their relationship from the Communist Party of China?” he added. “Because that’s what they do, and they make a fortune, and they don’t say a word about the really brutal practices that you see over there at the hands of the CCP.”
“Our policy’s got to be based on the best interests of Florida citizens, not on the musings of woke corporations,” DeSantis said.
