For a rare turn of events, Cancel Culture came for someone on the left.
A New York City theater company fired one of its actresses after she posted a vulgar video on social media about Gotham City’s streets being blocked because of the funeral of NYPD Officer Jason Rivera.
Rivera and his partner, Officer Wilbert Mora, were shot to death last week answering a domestic violence call in Harlem. Rivera, 22, was a rookie, while Mora, 27, was a four-year veteran of the NYPD.
In a moving and solemn site on Friday, thousands of uniformed NYPD officers gathered in the streets for Rivera’s funeral procession.
The scene triggered Jacqueline Guzman, an actress with Face to Face Films, a theater and film company.
In her video, Guzman said, “We do not need to shut down most of Lower Manhattan because one cop died for probably doing his job incorrectly. They kill people who are under 22 every single day for no good reason and we don’t shut down the city for them. Like this is f–king ridiculous. This is f–king ridiculous. What if somebody is having a heart attack in this area. Nobody can get to them because it’s all blocked off for one f–king cop.”
On Saturday, Face to Face said it had seen enough of Guzman’s face.
In a Facebook post, the company said, “Face to Face Films has just been made aware of an insensitive video involving one of our members, Jacqueline Guzman. Face to Face Films does not support nor can condone these comments made about fallen Officer Rivera. As a result, she is no longer a member of our company.”
Those of us who are pro-cop can only hope that Cancel Culture now comes for Christopher Flanigan, a math teacher at Coney Island Prep in Brooklyn.
According to the New York Post, Flanigan posted a message on his private Instagram account that included a photo of the streets packed with cops and captioned: “5/30/20: NYPD SUV drives into a crowd of protestors. Ideal conditions for reciprocity.”
The Post noted Flanigan was referring to an incident that occurred during a George Floyd protest in the city. An NYPD SUV drove through a group of protesters during an anti-cop demonstration following Floyd’s death.
The Post noted, “Then-Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said cops did not use the vehicle in a forceful manner. Former Mayor Bill de Blasio called footage of the incident ‘troubling’ but also blamed protestors for not moving out of the way. No injuries were reported.”
An unidentified officer in Manhattan told the Post, “For a school teacher to condone an act of terrorism is reprehensible. I wouldn’t want him giving my own children instruction of any kind.”
